Despair

Depression slips in
Like a thief in the night
Seeps into the root of my life
Percolates to the very fibre of my being

I know no joy
No pleasure
From a time that once was
A time so long ago

A distant pleasure is my mirth
A vision of a foreign land
All that surrounds me is despair
Disdain of a sad journey

Playback the sweet melodies of yesteryear
That I remember what happiness feels like
Sing the tunes of carefree fun
That I may once again enjoy youthful splendour

The record spinning
The disc turning
The Ipod playing
Gallant versions of our loves

Yet,
The memory fades
With the press of a button
Stop! Pause! Stop!

And just like that
Amusement disappears
And the rekindled fire extinguished
With a triumphant breath

Sailing away into the abyss
My blissful remembrance of merriment
Now the only cloud that covers
Is one of sadness

Pain
Hurt
Despondency
Melancholy

Sigh!
The heaving heart's release
Yet
That cannot bear any relief
Only a temporary hiatus
As day by day one drifts

Further and further
Into the discontented void
In time, space and in between

Much Love,
Nella
