Weekly Inspiration

This week's inspiration is the will to press on. Don't lose faith in where you're heading but rather focus on all that you've accomplished and how far you've come.

And sometimes all you really need is a kick in the butt or a helping hand to help carry you on. Whatever it is, just don't stop moving forward.

Much Love,

Nella

LHC- Am I burnt out?

Hey ya'll,

It's been a hot minute since I did one of these little confessions. I feel like I've fell off the wagon a bit. Sowwie!!! But to be honest I've been a little demotivated recently. I know I have a million and one things to do but I do nothing. All I do is lie down and waste time then shake my head at myself. Digging my own grave if you will. I really need to shake this off because it's pretty much affecting my productivity and I can't be a procrastinator at this point in my life. I need to refocus and revive that brightly lit spirit I began this year with. I just feel like maybe I'm a little burnt out and I really hope I'm not because man I have too many things to accomplish this year to be defeated like this. Sigh! It's just another one of those times I guess where meditation and reflection is needed. I'll begin this journey so keep me in your thoughts, prayers and send out positivity in my direction. I would much appreciate the love. Thanks for your continued support and I hope to marvel you all my loves.
Yeah I know this is a little short this week but that's all she wrote for today folks.

Much Love,

Nella

Friday Link Love

Hello dolls and dudes,

This week has been a severely hectic one. I haven't posted at all this week. Shame on me. Worse of all I've been so demotivated and off my game this week. It seems like all I want to do is lie down and enjoy laziness' greatest pleasure but that's probably when I need the biggest kick and push. That being said, I think I'll use this weekend to reset my mind, clear some clutter (literally and figuratively) and start afresh. It's a much needed redo.

Anyways, that's not why you're here. Check out this week's link love list and see what your favourite Jamaican bloggers have been up to this week. Enjoy!

Surviving being single on Valentine’s Day

For many, Valentine’s Day is a wonderful day of the year where people express their feelings of love and affection through sentimental gifts and gestures. However, it is also that day of the year when those of us who are not in a relationship or have at least a Valentine tend to experience feelings of loneliness and self-doubt. It seems as though the message being spread throughout is that if you have a significant other great!!! But if not….well……..you get the picture. What is a single person to do? Well I’m here to tell you all is not lost. Valentine’s Day is not only for cupid-struck lovers, it can be for the single person too and I am here to tell you how.
The first thing you should do is to not define yourself by your relationship status. Your relationship status is not your identity and it is ever changing. Now that you’ve got that covered what do you do to enjoy yourself on Valentine’s Day while being single? The aim is to do something that is fun and is a great distraction from all the chaos going on around you with couples.
1. Host a movie night. Rent movies, order a pizza, invite your other single friends over and have a blast. Up the tempo of this get together by playing some music and dancing the night away. Just remember all you have to do is HAVE FUN!
  1. Volunteer. Nothing helps you to feel better faster than doing something nice for  someone else. Volunteering doesn’t even have to be on a large scale like helping out a hospital or visiting a children’s hospital; it can be something as simple as helping your sibling with his/her homework or helping your mother in the kitchen. These little activities may not seem like a lot to you but it would be greatly appreciated by the receiving party. So this Valentine’s Day spread some joy by helping others. You will get it multiplied back many times over.
 3. Pass out platonic Valentines. How about buying a box of chocolate for a friend or giving out little chocolates to several friends and family members? Or what about buying a box of those little paper Valentines, then pass them out to your family and friends. In doing so, you will be reminded of how much love you do have in your life. Also, it will bring a smile to many faces, including yours!
 4. Have a boys/girls night out. Grab a group of your single friends, get dressed up and go out for a fun night on the town. It doesn’t matter what you decide to do. It can be take a trip to the movies, going to a club or party, or even just planning a fun picnic. The point is to get out there and enjoy being single.
 5. Game Night. Who doesn’t like a good game? So it’s time to dust those old board games off the shelf, call all of your friends over and host a game night. Games like Twister are immensely enjoyable and tend to bring out the child-like joy in all of us. Food, friends, games and fun, what more can one ask for?

The final thing to remember is that love is not just for couples; it is for all of us. Don’t let one day of the year stop you from showing love everyday!

Much Love,

Nella

Valentine’s Day Gifts

Valentine’s Day is only a few days away and for those of you in the gift giving mood, you may be wondering what it is you should get your recipient. The first thing to remember is that the first and most important rule of gift-giving is to give the recipient, whether it be your lover, your friend, your sister or brother, your parents or even your grandmother, what he or she wants, as opposed to simply what you want to give them. With that in mind, you should also realize that gifts need not entail large sums of money in order to be effective and appreciated. Some of the most memorable Valentine’s Day presents tend to be those that come straight from the heart. The best gifts are creative and targeted for the specific needs of the receiver.
Now it’s always a safe and easy way to take the traditional route of gift giving and give your valentine flowers, chocolate, teddy bears and other stuffed animals, jewellery and even cards but this year you may want to add a little spice to the mix and let those creative juices flow on your gift. Here is a list of some creative ideas that you can use to get your message across while making your valentine feel extra special at the same time.

1)  Valentine’s Day Newsletter- This idea may be seemingly time consuming but it is a fun little project that will make the recipient feel truly loved. Fill your newsletter of special articles, a calendar of romantic and memorable days, pictures, a joke to put an extra smile on the recipient’s face, just about anything you think the other party will truly appreciate and enjoy.
2) CD of memorable and romantic songs- Make a special CD for that special person. The CD should include songs from special events and moments in your lives and can also include those love songs that warms the heart of even the coldest being. You can even add a special bonus track with a song you have written for the person. Nothing says love better than a heart-felt song.
3) Valentine’s Day coupons- Create a cute book of coupons for your loved one. This book can include coupons like ‘A romantic dinner for two’, ‘A movie date’, ‘A special day dedicated to you’, or any other little gift you think would be appropriate and make the recipient feel truly loved.
4) Gift Box- Get out your markers and crayons, glitter and confetti, cartridge paper and scissors and make a great decorative box for your special someone. You can use an actual box or you can make your own using materials around the house. On the outside of the box should be decorated with pictures, stickers, markers, glitter, just about anything you feel will make it look wonderful and on the inside you can include little chocolates, a short poem, a special coupon, a little joke, or any other little tidbit you can think of to put in the box.
5) Scrapbook – It is often said that a picture is worth a thousand words, so imagine how much is being said to that special person with a scrapbook full of pictures and memories of time spent together. Select interesting pictures reflecting the best moments spent together and arrange them with witty captions at the end. Add some romantic poems and your messages. Adorn the scrapbook to your own taste.
6) Framed picture- Share with your valentine a breathtaking moment in time together. You can customize and decorate your picture frame and make it even more unique by adding little touches around the frame.
7) Poems- If you are one who is great at expressing your feelings, then this is the route for you. Write a poem or two that truly expresses your feelings and shares it with the world.
8) Write little romantic notes and leave them everywhere (pockets, lunchbox, car, mirror etc.). Do this to remind that person just how loved and cared for they truly are.
9) Plan a romantic dinner-You don’t have to go out to have a romantic dinner, you can plan one right in the comfort of your home. Cook a magnificent meal that you are sure the person will enjoy and set up a special area to have your dinner. Make the evening more romantic by adding candles, flowers and the works.
10) Customize your gifts- Whether it be a customized cup, pillow case or t-shirt the point is to make it original and special for the recipient and for it to be a way to make the person know exactly how you feel about them.
 Much Love,
 Nella

Valentine’s Day Outfits

I’m not really one to go out on Valentine’s Day. Not because I’m an envious of any of the lovey doveys prancing around on cloud nine but more because I can’t take the overly expressed show of emotions. As far as I’m concerned as much as I’m a fan of Valentine’s Day I think more people need to realize that we should express our love for those special people in our lives as often as possible. No day should be an indicator of showing love and appreciation . And not to mention the congestion. Whoo whee it’s like everyone and their granny behind come out and roaming the streets. The places of entertainment are ram packed jeez. It’s great for the economy (yay stimulating economy) but horrible for the intimate setting Valentine’s day denotes.
Anyways enough of my sour grapes. For those of you who have made plans to head out and spend a night at dinner, movies, or whatever you have planned, I roamed the interwebs and found some cute outfits that complement and theme and I think look really amazing. Here goes:
When choosing a Valentine’s Day outfit think of a few things:
1. Where are you heading?
2. What kind of setting is it?
3. How traditional do you want to be? Play with hues and tones of reds, pinks, white and black? Or you rather a combination of classic or traditional with a modern twist or edge?
4. How will you accessorize? What is your statement piece?
5. Do I feel amazing? It matters not what others think as long as you feel absolutely amazing and  believe you look absolutely great. Let your outside reflect your inside.

Also take some time and check out Natalia's Be Mine: DIY Heart Shaped Tank over at Natalia Oh! It's an absolutely cute way to embellish your tank tops.

Ewwww Uncomfortable Experiences

Hey dolls and dudes,

This week has been quite an interesting one to say the least. I've just completed week 2 of my Jnr Med Rotation and I'm saying goodbye to KPH the place I've called hope for the past 2 weeks. I must I really enjoyed the hands on experience that I received and it did not disappoint in the weird and wonderful cases. But I had the most uncomfortable experience while in a colonoscopy. First of all the experience itself is already horrible for the mere fact that it involves entering the hind parts and inserting a probe to see what's going on in there but let's add an overly dramatic patient to the mix.

This patient screamed and moaned the entire time but my discomfort came when the patient asked if they could take my hand and bite me. Ummm.......say what now? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! HELL NOOO!!!!!!!! I felt so discomforted by that and then they went further by asking if I could rub their belly. *Double take* Rub their belly. I know it's an uncomfortable experience to have that instrument probing into your anus but please do not pass on your pain and discomfort to me please and tonx! Lawks man! Let's keep it PG up in here.

Thank God it didn't take extremely long to complete the procedure because it was getting too uncomfortable in that room for me. That's it fr uncomfortable medical experiences. I mean hey it could've been worse!

Much Love,

Nella

Weekly Inspiration-World Cancer Day

Hi my darlings,

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. If you're not then stop for a moment take a deep breath and begin again with a smile on your face. This week my inspiration comes from a global event happening today. February 4th has been labelled WORLD CANCER DAY. And in honour of such a day, I've decided to dedicate this week's inspiration board to the event and finding the cure.

Here's a little information about the event.

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide and accounted for 7.6 million deaths (around 13% of all deaths) in 2008. World Cancer Day is marked on February 4 to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. World Cancer Day was founded by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to support the goals of the World Cancer Declaration, written in 2008. The primary goal of the World Cancer Day is to significantly reduce death and illness caused by cancer by 2020.

This year, World Cancer Day 2013 will focus on Target 5 of  the World Cancer Declaration: Dispel damaging myths and misconceptions about cancer, under the tagline "Cancer Did you know?" It's a day and a chance to raise our collective voices in the name of improving general knowledge around cancer and dismissing misconceptions about the disease. From a global level, we will be focusing our messaging on the four myths above. In addition to being in-line with our global advocacy goals, we believe these overarching myths leave a lot of flexibility for members, partners and supporters to adapt and expand on for their own needs.- www.worldcancerday.org

This day is especially significant to me as I am someone who lost both her grandfather and an older cousin to cancer, therefore I think it's important to spread the word and get the message across. So I ask you all to join me today as I celebrate and educate about this deadly illness.

Much Love,

Nella
