Weekly Inspiration

It's Christmas Eve!!!! Yay!!! I bet right now Santa is packing up his sleigh and getting the reindeer ready for the long trip around the world to give presents to the good little boys and girls. Have you been naughty or nice this year?

This week my inspiration is a more festive and holiday theme. I love Christmas. It's one of my favourite holidays. The spirit of kindness and love. Remembering the birth of Christ. Spending time with family and friends. Not to mention the holiday festivities. For those who don't celebrate Christmas, from my understanding Hanukkah and Kwanzaa reverberates the spirit of family, kindness, togetherness and love. All which are the qualities I love the most.

I think this week I may do more than one post for weekly inspiration. I feel really inspired this week and I just want to share with you that which has been the foremost of my mind. That being said, I really love nail art. It's such an amazing way to express yourself. I actually have what some would say an unhealthy nail polish obsession. I have a crazy amount that I just absolutely love. Unfortunately, I'm a med student that means there are strict rules regarding how we keep our nails wa wa waaaaaaaaaaaa.............. :( But hey a girl can admire and dream can't she? And there's nothing wrong with a little admiration and inspiration.

These just little tidbits I found on the web. For more nail art and some tutorials, head over to the worderful sites like youtube, pintrest, tumblr or try this blog Bellezzabee.

Lonely Heart Confessions - I'm complex, complicated and a little crazy

I fail to fit into the mold of conventional. The perfect square laid out to define my existence. I choose to walk along the line of differences; refusing to fully cross over to any one side for I am not an either or but rather a product of continuous interactions. Dynamic in nature.

There are no words yet to fully define me. I am a concept and an enigma. How then can I be explained if yet we are all dunbfounded? Three C's seem to pervade through me. Encircling my mind and devouring my thoughts. You've seen them up above. Complex, complicated, crazy. They've called me all three.

They seem to think that my mental exercise is too exhausting for the simple man. I'm too tattered and broken to be a symbol of power. They say I'm a bit too zany and awkward to be a leader. Complex, complicated, crazy. They repeat and I start to think. What hath I done to be described as such? Is it wrong to be? Am I just a walking stop sign? Is 'Do not enter' etched on my forehead? Or is 'U turn' the sign that percolates through my essence? Does danger inflame me and leave a menace in the wake of my steps? Is it wrong to be?

My mind crinkles to the thoughts. Deeply replaying the words in my mental stereo. Complex, complicated, crazy. Complex, complicated, crazy. Complex, complicated, crazy. I repeated like a scratched disc or an unreeled cassette. Unwound by error and destroyed by mistake. But it was as I was reeling it back in, I realized. It's ok to be.

If errors didn't happen, then there could be no change. If mistakes were not made, then there would be no lessons. How can there be advancement in the wake of perfection? It is through our desires and implicit need to be better that we develop, enrich, build on and marvel. It is through our failures that we plaster our foundation and return to the drawing board. And it is from our mistakes that true human evolution and some amazing memories and stories are truly created.

So yes, I am complex. I admit. There is no duplicate that can be found. Even my doppleganger would not compute my unique decree. My intricate design is such that I'm one of a kind. Built like no other I step out into the world as a force. Curved like the figure 8, eyes bright like a star and a metallic smile that shimmers in the moonlight. Armoured to the tee with my intellect as my greatest defense, experience as my greatest teacher and love as my true leader. Love of self as a pre-requisite to love of others.

And yes, I'm complicated.  My complexity is such that whispers results in trembles. A figure that leaves others fumbling. My mind is interwoven into my fibres. My being shaped and shaven to suit my ideals. I'm complicatedly simple. A contradiction that smiles at the utterance. A stitch out of time. A time warp ripple with a love of 50's fashion and 90's music. A 60's hippie mentality promoting peace and equality with a 21st century design.

And I'm a little crazy. Crazy to believe that by definition I am my own best friend. My true master and teacher. Crazy to believe that I can garner knowledge through experience and interactions of others. To believe that dreams do come true because they do. Crazy to believe that I can truly do anything that I put my mind to and that I will live to see 110 years old because it is my will. Crazy to believe that I can be powerful but at the same time nurturing and have impeccable taste without sticking to the norm.

I am complex, complicated and a little crazy. But you know what? That's alright. Acceptance and self-love.
I know who I am and I know my worth.

Listen to yourself for you truly know who you are. You are your greatest ally. The one constant in your life til the end. So nurture your spirit, enrich your mind, take care of your body and most of all love you for the original that you are and stop being a second hand version of someone else. YOU ARE AMAZING. Always remember that. I know I do.

Help I have med student burn out

Hello hello,

HELP! I'm stuck in a time warp. A laziness bubble. Or a boredom cap. I just wanna lie down and sleep and not wake until school restarts in January.

The days have seem to become a series of endless encounters. I'm constantly tired. I don't want to leave my house. And honestly I don't look like my awesome self. There just seems to be something, a magnet of some sort attracting me to my home. Maybe I was hypnotized and I don't even know :s But I just can't put my finger on what's up because this is so unlike me.

Call it laziness. Boredom. Apathy. Or burn out. I am currently in a state of disinterest. After months of tireless working and studying I'm finally on Christmas vacation for only 2 weeks I may add and I honestly don't even want to leave my house. I get invited out with friends and I stay home. I just want to lay in my bed, snug under the covers and sleep. Rest my mind, clear my hear and just hibernate. Is this what they call getting older? Am I becoming boring? Whatever it is, this has got to stop in 2013. I'll give myself the rest of the year off to chill but come January 1 this chica needs to get moving and active again. I'm not of this life.
Let's see if I make it. But hopefully, I'll be a little bit more active next week as a prelude to my awesome reawakening. Pray for me.

Much Love,

Nella

Road Trip JA

Hey guys,

I hope you are having a wonderful time wherever you are in the world. So this post is basically a photo haul where I will be sharing my travel experiences around my homeland of Jamaica with you. This year I actually realized that I haven't traversed my fair island often enough. There are so many amazing wonders and places that I've missed but I'm definitely willing to catch up and surround myself in the richness of it all. Today's journey takes us to the beautiful parish of Portland. Portland is one of my absolute favourite parishes, it actually only comes second to Kingston my home. It's unmarred setting is just the scenic view needed to refresh your mind, body and spirit. The vibrancy of the richest blues, the golden sun and ashen brown of the fine but magnificent sand takes my breath away with each trip.

I was fortunate enough to venture off into this amazing parish with my friends and land at Boston Beach. Located approximately 9 miles from the parish capital Port Antonio, Boston beach is a costal community on the northern part of Jamaica. The public beach is one of country's favourite waterfront chill spots that has even attracted a few surfers(actually one of the few beaches in Jamaica that attracts surfers). Equipped with an amazing scenery, a diving cliff, hammocks for relaxing and their infamous jerk delicacies YUM!!!!

I definitely had an amazing time with my friends. Oh and before I forget the beach is opened all week. Mondays to Thursdays from 1pm-5pm and Fridays to Sundays 9am- 5pm are the official times, but I've found that in the summer it will close a little later at 6pm because the sun is still up. I would DEFINITELY recommend a trip. You will not regret it!!!!

A special thanks to Domz and Sheree (Sheree a la mode) for taking many of these amazing photographs.

To see the pictures a little bigger just click on the picture and it will enlarge. I got a little carried away with the photo editing but don't worry, I'll get the hang of this thing. I promise.

Much Love,

Nella

Figuring it out as I go along

This isn't a true confession as those that I normally write on Sundays but rather an introspection into my life, my purpose, my true desires, finding my path and figuring out who I am destined to be and stop living in the moment of who I used to be.

I'm not sure how many persons believe that today would be the end of the world and hey it might just be but since it's December 22nd in the Eastern parts of the world already, I think we may be safe. However, I began to think "what if?". "What if today really was the end of the world?" Would I be happy with how I've left it? And the answer is more than likely a resounding 'No'. I am happy for the blessings that I do have in my life. I'm happy for my family, friends, a wonderful relationship, for pursuing my dream career and so many other great achievements that I've slowly but surely accomplished in my life.

But I believe the reason why I would still be dissatisfied with my life is that I'm still figuring out who I am and what my purpose is. I'm on a journey and each series of events is a new story to tell future generations. I continuously seek out my passions, acknowledge my vices and making up the in between as I go along.

Life is a journey. A book. An adventure. And I'm slowly trying to recapture my flailing spirit. Overcoming the  feelings of lacking and boredom. Reuniting with the zany, random, spirited and fun young woman I once was.  I've lost some of my gumption on the way but I'm still fighting for the right to shine forth into the light.

In this journey, all we have are our dreams, goals, freedom of pursuit and happiness. Be thankful for what you have but still not satisfied until you reach your ultimate self in life.

Enjoy the journey :)

Nella

It's the season of giving

Look around the social media scope and what do you see? What do you hear? What do you feel? If you're an avid social media user like many of us 21st century people, then you would've noticed the many opportunities to win prizes and get friends to win prizes this Christmas holiday. After all it is the season of giving and major commercial companies have to remedy to get you even more interested in their products and brands.

But allow me to introduce you to something else, Monique Kennedy, a fellow Jamaican and Award-winning fashion and lifestyle blogger at Mrkologie, graphic designer and aspiring image consultant has partnered with the Salvation Army to host a fundraiser this Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Market on the Lawn at Devon House, Kingston, Jamaica.

This fundraiser comes in the form of a Raffle and Clothing Drive Fundraiser in which part proceeds go to benefit the Salvation Army. The event is also sponsored by some local fashion designers who have donated items that will serve as prizes for the winners of the raffle. The designers are White Skyy, Reve Jewelry & Accessories, Tarik & Tif and Yaad Trendz. A style profile of the designers and updates on the project can be found on the Mrkologie site.

The public is invited to be a part of the splendid affair of fashion and charity. And I implore yoy all to do your part to help this initiative. Remember this is the season of giving and this is a great way to do it and show support of our local talents and organizations. Come on guys, let's do this!!!!

Check out the video promo: here

Happy Days!!!!

Poetry Wednesdays

I absolutely love writing poetry. It's one of the best ways that I know how to express myself, along with dancing. Being as closed off as I am sometimes the spoken word evades me and I'm left with a flood of unspoken lingual exchanges and a deep need to be released. I think, therefore I write. This is what keeps me passionate and captivated. This is what keeps me smiling and thoughtful.

Read the poem, follow the blog and leave a comment. Spread the word and tell your friends! The journey with me is sure to be amazing!!!!

Therefore, without further ado..........from my mind  to your eyes............I introduce to you my latest poem:

Flower Child
by: Ornella Green

Releasing my inner gypsy
Flower child, Minx, and Imp
Finding all my flaws and imperfections to love
Nurturing my roaming spirit

Let's dance in the rain
Soaking away our trembling fears
Whispering our darkest desires
Take a taste of the eternal flame of desire
Drenched in the inferno of truth

Whereforth, lies my inner beast
Inner demons,
Subliminal sins,
Whereforth,
My inhibitions escape
Briskly into the night
Shining on the dampened sky

The sun smiles at me in the newness of the air
Combating with the shadows for full control of my being
Where are my ruby red slippers?
My yellow brick road?
Find my tin man a heart
Give courage to the lion
And a brain to the scarecrow

Dare I dream of going home
To my ladled bed of love and pleasure
To discover the armoured knight
Awaiting my presence
