Octoberbest!!!!

This October is all about making some positive life changes. The kind of changes that makes you better in every aspect of your life. The set of decisions that make you the best you can be both inside and out. So join me on this journey to self actualization. The journey of personal growth and transformation. This is OCTOBERBEST- Being the best you!!!

Now that you've decided to make the positive changes. Get a piece of paper and make a list of the things you want to change in each area of your life. List them all out and every time you accomplish a task tick/cross/mark it off your list. the accomplishments will make you feel better about you!!! And brings you that much closer to the best you yet. Here are a few of mine:

1) I will give everything I do 150%. Go the distance and Push! Push! Push!

2) Studying is not a last minute thing but a full time job. Learn it well the first time.

3) Healthy body= Healthy mind. If ever I feel lazy and don't want to exercise-Just Do It.

4) Veggies are my friends. Learn to love them because they love you.

5) Sleep helps you to grow! Whenever I feel too stressed and agitated, it means it's time for a good nights rest.

6) Live! Laugh! Love!- You only have one life, so enjoy it and the journey you're on.

Much Love,
Nella

Rated F!

Am I the only one who has a problem with the level of customer service in Jamaica?
We see it time and time again. You enter into a store, restaurant, bank etc. and you encounter a scene where a customer is upset about the way he/she is being spoken to 'like dem ah nuhbody'. The message that comes across as a result of the inappropriate behaviour of those in the service industry is that if you're not a 'big shot' or 'you don't behave badly' you won't get the proper service.

Let me replay one of my own personal incidents with you all.

(This is a long rant so prepare)

Earlier in the summer I went to the NCB on campus with two of my friends for the coin Wednesdays drive that they have. Every Wednesday except the last Wednesday of the month NCB does a coin exchange. Now my friends had made previous attempts to do this however, they were met with some tidbits or information such as they do not do the exchange on the last wednesday of the month and coins have to be in clear plastic bags that led to their postponement of their going.
Anyways, they went and after waiting a long time in the line they reach a teller. One of those full of attitude too. So since they were both exchanging coins they decided to just go together. After presenting their coins they are further informed that it has to be 100 coins or less. Ok no problem just put some here and there and make it work (this is after they've counted and separated the coins based on value).

(This is a lot, you should take a breather! :))

After they've done this, she weighs the coins 'this is not 100' and hands back the coins. Now she said a hundred or less, so we were like one has 96 and another 98 what's the problem? Despite all this remained calm and just did it over. Since it was taking long I decided to pitch in and make it move faster. Counting counting counting. She hands back a bag this is not a hundred so I had 25 extra coins and took the bag. I asked her 'how much is in there?' No answer! Ok so I just add the 25 coins I had and give her back then she proceeds to ask me how much in the bag so I look at her and say idk you just counted and I added 25 coins you figure it out. And imagine after she had finished with one of my friends she's like I'll be back to the other and go to other customers who were waiting; taking an extensive time before she returned and then pawn my friend off to another teller.

The main problem I had on that day was her attitude. Her behaviour from the get-go was completely rude. I mean I understand you may have had a long day but it's your job and we were not being rude to you so you should give us the same respect. And this is not an isolated incident it happens at many places across the island where the staff treat the 'locals', 'the poorer or middle-class looking set', 'the younger persons' or 'the elderly' like if they don't deserve the same respect you'd give the rich and powerful and it NEEDS TO STOP.
I AM HUMAN and I DESERVE RESPECT.

(Break #2 Almost there!)

It doesn't matter where a person is from, treat them with due respect and serve with a friendly smile and the professionalism that makes everyone respect you. Yes you will always have rude and impatient customers BUT maintain your professionalism and give good service!

This is my rant and message for today! If you've read this far, THANK YOU SO MUCH! And be the change you wish to see in the world.

Much Love,
Nella :)

Spent

Resting my beautiful eyes for a new reality
Where despair can no longer reach me
Past the pinnacle of REM
Approaching the deep slumber

Time and space frozen
As I weep of a broken dream
Cry solid tears of disappointment
Crystals of an aching heart

I've spent many a nights like this
Lost in the entanglement of my own thoughts
Trapped in the soliloquy of my heart
The silent plea of the crushed

Spent I am
Drained I've become
No longer can I control the ice the invades me
Nor cool the fire the engulfs me

My spirit broken
Broken in my woven skin
Wounded by time's reality
A blister beyond repair

How shall I escape?
To where can I flee?
Where's the cobblestone to freedom?
That was built on the backs of the innocent

Scream
Shout
Bawl
All in accordance with my grief
All in correspondence with my pain

Press on I must
Push forth I can
For the mind is my best weapon
And mental defeat is the end of a fallen dream

Much Love,
Nella

Concept

What my mind seeks to create
The world may not understand
What my heart chooses to love
People may doubt

Yet,
Still the conceptualization of my being Bears witness to no other
Shows no shame of my choices

My mind a building block
A creative media
My lips a lingual art
A golden ticket of mirth

I'm an architect of dreams
A conductress of a mental orchestra
A designer like no other
Creative, passionate and energetic
The spices of life

Dissociated from the future
Injected into the past
A past journey, once forgotten
A journey to eternal triumph

I am being of spiritual existence
A vessel of miraculous discoveries
A pathway to intellectual advancement
A complexity beyond imagination

Still,
Simplicity fuels my beginning
A simple thought sparks my interest
A footstep drives my presence

Advanced yet archaic
Complex but still simple
Disdain around my every structure
A concept state of mind

Much Love,
Nella

Happy 49th Jamaica!

Hello friends, lovers and faithful followers! Today is a wonderful day in my country and homeland Jamaica!!! It's out Independence Day whoohoo!!! We have officially survived 49 great years as a nation and will live see many more! So in honour of this great day I'd like to share with you a poem I wrote called Freedom Call!

Freedom Call

A journey of a thousand miles
Begins with one step;
But,
What of a journey through your life?
A journey through the streets of your memories?

The question ricochets through my mind
Amplified by the immortal pain
Of each blistering step
The crisp whistling of crumpled leaves beneath my soul

A shallow walk
A deep journey
The silent song of an adventure
Drowned out by the voices around

When I see the pain of my brother
Hear the screams of my sister
Listen to the cries of my mother
Touched by the sound of the lost voices
"Help me! Save me" comes the screams
Yet I am helpless to their pleas

The fruitfulness of a voice
Can leave the martyr unsung
Still martyrdom requires sacrifice
To free the wronged
And give salvation to the broken

Solemn tears fill the eardrums
Dissolved in pain-stricken eyes
Washed away a faded smile
Broke the titanium seal that covered the heart

Return thyself to the dreams of yesteryear
Dreams lost with each step
"I have a dream" recited Martin Luther King Jr
"Emancipate yourself from mental slavery" sang Marcus Garvey

Those dreams of the tomorrow
Alive in the tales of the present
A journey in the delirious direction
A direction of equality and equity
Instead,
A symbol of things left undone

Forty-nine years and counting
A footprint left as a reminder
Each step an inch to destiny
But,
We have yet to complete our marathon

So,
Until the eternal race is won
"Up ye mighty race"
Remains the eternal freedom call

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY JAMAICA!!!

Lies

Consumed by the flames of life
Erupting all around
Covered by the flood of deceit
From the river of destruction
It was only one small lie
Then another to cover it up
Then another to make your story real
And another to complete your story

It could never hurt anyone
Never hurt a soul
Never destroy a life
It's only a lie

One small lie
Not even a lie
A half truth
A deviation from the truth

Not a lie at all
It could not hurt anyone
It could not hurt a soul
It could not destroy a life

That's what you keep telling yourself
That's what you keep saying
That's what keeps you going
Endlessly speaking

The cycle continues
You can never stop
No turning back now
You can't tell the truth

Can you?
Should you?
Can you really?
Should you really?

You ponder to yourself
Thinking slowly
Wondering

But...
What if...
As in...

The excuses flow out in a stream
Filling the river
Powering the flood
Igniting the flame
The flame of lies that keeps burning

Much Love,

Nella
